The Advocate Training Program is a program designed
to train women from the grassroots community to become
effective health policy activists and advocates. The
issues range from general empowerment to specific health
concerns, such as mental and emotional wellness. The
training program also includes a skill-building focus
so that participants will learn community organizing
and advocacy skills. Initiating and sustaining letter-writing
campaigns to writing press releases will be taught in
an interactive environment. The central focus of this
project is to empower Black women who are not traditionally
part of the policy advocacy arena to advocate for their
health and the health of their families. By accomplishing
our training goals, we will enhance and expand the network
of activists, policymakers and leaders striving to improve
the health of Black women in California. For more stories
and information on some of our ATP graduates, see our
past newsletters by clicking
