"It's Time to Act Up! Taking Our Policy Advocacy to

On February 11, 2005, the California
Black Women's Health Project (CABWHP) held its fifth
annual Policy Summit entitled, "It's Time to Act Up!
Taking Our Policy Advocacy to the Next Level."
Grassroots leaders, health service providers,
government representatives and policy advocates
convened at the Sierra Health Foundation in
Sacramento to provide input and analysis to a
statewide action plan to address Black women's
mental, emotional and physical health.

| Update: Universal Health Care in California SB840 |

The California Health Insurance Reliability Act, SB840
(Kuehl), which would institute a statewide, universal
health insurance system, was passed out of Senate Banking
Finance and Insurance Committee, chaired by Senator
Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco) on April 6, 2005 and
the Senate Health Committee chaired by Debra Ortiz (D-Sacramento)
on April 27, 2005.
